ABTA Launches New EES and ETIAS Information Hub for Members and Travellers

ABTA moved early to give members and customers a reliable reference point

ABTA said it had published new information on EES and ETIAS for members and travellers so that questions could be answered well before the systems were introduced. The update included a dedicated Member Zone hub with exclusive Q&A material, alongside a public advice page designed to give consumers a clear place to check the basics.

The guidance focused on preparation rather than fixed promises

ABTA explained that EES would replace physical passport stamping with a digital border-recording system and that ETIAS would later add a pre-travel authorisation requirement for visa-exempt visitors. At the time of publication, the association noted that EU implementation dates were not yet confirmed, even though EES was then expected in autumn 2024 and ETIAS in mid-2025.

Why early communication mattered to the travel industry

ABTA's position was that members needed practical material in place before customer confusion grew. By creating a member resource, planning further updates and maintaining a consumer advice page, the association aimed to help travel businesses give consistent answers while the finer details of the rollout were still emerging.
